LGBT Week Update (#2)

First I want to say I'm sorry for slacking on here. I have been reading a lot more and working my butt off getting LGBT Week together. I have also been thinking about switching my blog over to another one once LGBT Week is over. What do you guys think about that? Will you follow me over on the new blog?

As for the update I don't really have much to tell you. I thought a weekly update would be good but now I'm thinking it might not be. More prizes have been added but I want to keep what they are a secret.

I guess I can tell you that so far I will be reviewing:

Luna by Julie Anne Peters
Keeping You A Secret by Julie Anne Peters
Anne On My Mind by Nancy Garden
The Bermudez Triangle by Maureen Johnson
Freaks and Revelations by Davida Wills Hurwin

I have more books coming to review. I can keep you updated on that.

If you have any questions let me know.

I'm Taking A Break

I have been working on planning LGBT Week a lot in the last few days and it is going great. The only bad part is I didn't think it would take this much time.

I will be taking a break from the book I am reading (Black Magic Sanction by Kim Harrison) and from doing reviews until after July 4th. I just have too much to do and little time to do it.

I will still be reading and writing reviews, you just wont get to see them until LGBT Week. I have a lot of ideas and I think it is all going to come together and be a wonderful 10 days.

I will keep doing the memes that I have been participating in and some other things that don't take much time.

I will also post updates about LGBT Week every Tuesday.

If you would like to be involved with LGBT Week or donate to the giveaway, please send me an email at: rae_reads@hotmail.com

THIS WEEKS LETTER IS: "N"

The book I picked is:

Never Cry Werewolf by Heather Davis

Sixteen-year-old Shelby knows she is acting out and making some bad choices when it comes to boys and dating, but she never expected her father and "wicked" stepmother to banish her to a "brat camp" for the summer. Luckily for Shelby, she is allowed to choose the artsy Camp Crescent instead of Priscilla's choice of Red Canyon-aka boot camp from hell. Camp turns out not to be a total waste even with the preachy Mr. Winters and singing guitar lady Cynthia. Shelby manages to make some new friends, but the real highlight is the arrival of Austin Bridges III. Not only is he the son of a legendary rock star, but he is also cute, kind, intriguing, and totally mysterious. Shelby is drawn to him and the terrible dark family secret that he is willing to share only with her. How can she turn her back on him, especially with the fully moon only a few nights away? Davis weaves together a fast-paced action adventure story with issues of peer pressure, divorce, betrayal, friendship, acceptance, and, of course, romance. Shelby is fearless and impulsice, but she is also a caring soul who just needs to find her way in a confusing world. This novel has great teen appeal but is not as dark or edgy as others in this genre. It will leave reads wanting more.

Review: The Reckoning

The Reckoning by Kelley Armstrong

Description: Only two weeks ago, life was all too predictable. But that was before I saw my first ghost. Now along with my supernatural friends Tori, Derek, and Simon, I'm on the run from the Edison Group, which genetically altered us as part of their sinister experiment. We're hiding in a safe house that might not be as safe as it seems. We'll be gone soon anyway, back to rescue those we'd left behind and take out the Edison Group . . . or so we hope.

Credit: Amazon.ca

My thoughts: I absolutely loved this book! Out of the three this one is my favorite. I honestly don't even know where to begin.

Tori and Simon were hilarious as usual. Chloe became stronger, more powerful and finally decided who she wanted to be with. Derek...again I don't know where to begin. He is one of my favorite characters and not just in the Darkest Powers trilogy.

This book is impossible to put down and is probably the best book I have read so far this year. I want to pick it back up and reread it right now.

My rating: 5 out of 5

Review: Waking Up in The Land of Glitter

Waking Up in the Land of Glitter: A Crafty Chica Novel by Kathy Cano-Murillo

Description: With glue guns, glitter, twigs, or yarn, the ordinary can become extraordinary . . . especially at La Pachanga. Owned by Estrella "Star" Esteban's family, the restaurant has a rep for two things: good food and great art. La Pachanga brings people together-even when it looks like they couldn't be further apart.

One ill-fated evening, Star jeopardizes her family's business, her relationship with her boyfriend, and her future career. To redeem herself, she agrees to participate in a national craft competition, teaming up with her best friend, Ofelia-a secretly troubled mother whose love for crafting borders on obsession-and local celebrity Chloe Chavez-a determined television personality with more than one skeleton in her professional closet. If these unlikely allies can set aside their differences, they'll find strength they never knew they had, and learn that friendship, like crafting, is truly an art form.

Credit: Amazon.ca

My thoughts: I really enjoyed this book. I laughed and I cried (thanks to Star and Theo) which doesn't happen to often. Their relationship just got to me.
Ofie is my favorite character. I haven't been through anything that she has, yet I understand everything she was feeling.
As for Chloe, I went from wanting to smack her, to wanting to be her friend.
This book had my emotions all over the place which has made this review very hard for me to write. In the end, I would have to say that this is yet another book that I would recommed.

My rating: 3 out of 5

Review: Blade: Nightstalking

Blade Nightstalking is an exclusive comic created specifically for the Blade: Trinity DVD.

It takes place a year before the movie when Abigail Whistler meets her father. Abigail wants to hunt and kill vampires, so even though Whistler doesn't want that kind of life for his daughter, he trains her.

Eventually Abigail meets Hannibal and decides to give him a chance to take his life back.

I don't want to give too much away for those of you who haven't read it or seen the movie.

I loved it! Abigail Whistler is sexy and such a bad ass. Hannibal is, of course, hilarious. If you have the DVD and haven't read this, you have to do so.

My rating: 4 out 5

Review: Twilight The Graphic Novel Volume 1

It only took me about 10-15 minutes to read so this is going to be a short review.

I was surprised at how much I actually enjoyed it as I'm not the biggest Twilight fan to begin with. I have never read a graphic novel before either, though I have been meaning to for awhile.

Young Kim did an amazing job and every page is absolutely gorgeous. The only problem I had with it was that it came to an end so abruptly. I wish it was a little bit longer.

In the end would I recommend it to my friends? Yes, I would. It's a fast, beautiful read. I may even take a few minutes later this week and read it again.

My rating: 3 out of 5
